Our first visit was to RISD Project Open Door ; its only two bus stops away from Hope High School

Vanessa: The program was founded by kids like me. It was a group of boys from Hope High School, who wanted a way to show how fun  art can be in all the many different ways.

Erin: People like Christina Miles are very nice and helpful. Christina runs POD as an after school and weekend program and is also an art teacher.

Erin: RISD POD has a lot of things to do, you can visit the nature lab in the building over the bus tunnels and draw insects and skeletons and draw cells for projects or for fun.

Leanessa: After the tour of the studio, we took a trip to the library that once used to be a bank. The wall of the library was filed with letters that spelled words out such as victory, win, etc.. it was like a bonus to our tour!

Ms. Travis: RISD Project Open Door is a great after school and weekend activity that started years back with Hope High School and is now expanded for high school students all over the city. Students can start with an after school class at Hope and progress to weekend classes in studios at RISD, taught by RISD faculty!

Lots of Hope students have taken advantage of RISD Project Open Door and used their experiences there to help them prepare their portfolios and gain acceptance to top art colleges, including Rhode Island School of Design.
